Feel-Good Country

12/13/2015

One of the most debatable genres of music is country music. Although many despise this genre, country music plays a major role in my life and is by far one of the best genres to exist. Every song has a unique tone that can accommodate your every mood. Country music varies from feel good days to happy days to sad days, just like life.

One of the main focuses to love country music is that there is a song for every mood you are feeling. When I'm feeling happy and ready to jam-out I instinctively turn on "How Country Feels" by Randy Houser. The beat that this song provides can make anyone want to jump around and sing right along! Even on sad days, I know I can count on Clay Walker's "She Won't Be Lonely Long." When listening to country music, I feel that a part of me is complete in which I am never alone and I always have someone to dance, and even cry, along with. Country music makes it easy to know that I'm not alone and that someone out there feels the same way I do.

Country music is often left out or forgotten due to the modernization of new music. However, country music is like no other genre in which it possess the simple aspects that every song should carry. Country music has the ability to remind us all of the good old-fashioned times where simplicity was the prime. Country music has given me the ability to unwind and live a carefree lifestyle.

The Best Show: Friends

12/13/2015

It is a universal truth the the show Friends was one of the best sitcoms ever produced. Friends is an American television sitcom that was created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman. The show originally aired on NBC on September 22, 1994. The show lasted ten seasons and unfortunately ended on May 6, 2004. The plot line follows the knee-slapping adventures of six friends living in Manhattan.

One of the main reasons Friends was such a hit when it aired were the relatable characters. The viewers are relate to all of the characters in some way, as each character has their own entertaining moments that are unforgettable. The characters in the show are given the appearance of ordinary people who are going through everyday life struggles, similar to most viewers.

Another argument that can be made to support the claim that Friends was one of the best sitcoms is the real progression that the show creates. The characters appeared so real in which they progressed throughout the seasons. As a viewer, I feel as if I had made personal connections to the characters, almost as if we had grown up together. The fact that love was found between the piers is a fairly common situation, this added to the natural feel that the show emitted.

The last argument that I have for why I believe that Friends was one of the best sitcoms is the use of real life issues. Throughout the show, the characters experienced real life issues that normal everyday people experience. Friends was one of the first shows to touch on serious and real life issues. Each episode displayed drama amongst the friends, and even drama among an individual character. While watching the program, I was able to translate some of the conflicts occurring in the shows and relate the issues to my life. As a viewer, it was nice to be reassured that I was not not the only person who was experiencing conflicts and going through crises.

The North Face Advertisements

12/6/2015

I am a major fan of all North Face Products. My devotion to the brand has convinced me that spending intolerable amounts of money is acceptable. I am convinced that my purchases were well worth it, considering that it has "The North Face" stitched into the upper corner. The North Face has made me an extremely loyal customer by creating a sense of community in which I belong.

I have become entranced in the company's products due to their inspiring slogan and advertising. The North Face's slogan, Never Stop Exploring, arouses an adventurous side to me, as well as other familiar customers. Their advertising has created a deep emotional connection that customers are able to relate to and spend enormous amounts of money on products. The brand of North Face provides the community with the sense of community that all customers desire.

When I am exposed to the advertisements of athletic adventures, I immediately feel secure, knowing that this is a brand that I am familiar with. I feel excited and I feel the urge to explore, a motto that the brand is all about. The advertising of the brand shows different people who often have different interests, coming together to act upon a common interest; adventure. Their ads consists of activities such as rock climbing, backpacking and camping. To be associated with this brand is to be associated with nature and the great outdoors. The urge to be outside is crucial to their company, because when you are doing activities outside, you need the proper equipment to preform these activities.

When I see the brand's advertisements of people of all different interests coming together as one, I feel an emotional connection in which I can relate. The advertisements of North Face scream freedom and adventure, aspects that every North Face customer wishes to embody. I notice that all of these people are wearing products of the brand, and I then begin to think that the way to fulfill these needs and urges is to buy the products that the people in the advertisement are wearing. I think wearing these clothes will make me more adventurous and free.

Politics and the English Language

12/6/2015

1. George Orwell argues against the "belief that language is a natural growth and not an instrument which we shape for our own purposes" (para. 1). Explain why you do or do not agree with Orwell's position.

I do agree with Orwell in which language is not  a natural growth. Language is a tool that people use in regards to communication. Language was invented for the purpose of expressing feelings and ideas. Overtime, language has grown, but it has grown alongside humans, not in a separate era. As ideas developed and become more complex, language developed to accommodate these ideas. Language is constantly changing because people are constantly discovering new ways to innovate and rework their language to accommodate their every needs. Orwell states that language is closely associated to our civilization, helping to strengthen culture. I agree with Orwell in which we are constantly changing the way we talk and the words we use. These word choices help to further deepen culture.  As we continue to grow, we manipulate our language more and more. Language was not created by a series of random conversions, but rather it was constructed for a soul purpose. Language is continuously evolving to meet our every needs.
